‘Congress not averse to alliance in the next Assembly polls’

October 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - Tirupur:

Congress is not averse to alliance in the next Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu. But any alliance, if at all needed, will be only with a partner travelling on the same political and ideological wavelength as that of Congress, said Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress state president S. Vijayadharani.

But she was quick to add that Congress is planning to fight it alone in all the 234 seats as recently stated by TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan.

She was in Tirupur on Friday as part of the State-wide tour to interact with women and youth and understand their issues and incorporate the same in the party manifesto.

She said that a change in government was imperative in the State to end the corruption prevailing in all departments. “We need a Lokayukta in the State to weed out corruption. But it will not be constituted until AIADMK is in power,” she said.

Ms. Vijayadharani said if Congress was voted to power, the party would ensure free education for all and bring down the scale of inflation by half. “We are not interested in offering freebies like mixies and fans,” she said.
