Complete works on time: Minister

Minister for Highways and Minor Ports Edappadi K. Palaniswami has asked the Corporation officials to complete the construction of overhead tanks by November 30, 2015 so that water supply to all the households in 60 wards could be streamlined.

At a meeting to review the various development works being implemented by the Corporation, the Minister said that under Phase II of the Mettur – Salem Dedicated Water Supply Scheme, 22 Elevated Level Surface Reservoirs were to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 28.71 crore. He said that construction works of 13 tanks were completed and works on eight tanks were in progress.

He asked officials to complete the work on time so that water supply could be ensured to all residents once in every three days.

Since most of the roads were dug for underground drainage system, he asked officials to give priority to re-lay the roads. Also, he asked officials to desilt drains, remove dumped garbage on roads regularly and ensure total sanitation in all the 60 wards.

The Minister told the health officials to carry out door-to-door anti-dengue operations and also distribute pamphlets to people about the precautionary measures they need to take in their houses to prevent outbreak of dengue. The construction of maternity centres, anganwadi centres, toilets and other construction activities should be completed by December 30, 2015 and should be put to public use, he added.

District Revenue Officer S. Selvaraj, Mayor S. Soundappan, V. Paneerselvam MP, MLAs M.K. Selvaraj, G. Venkatachalam, Corporation Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj, Deputy Mayor M. Natesan, Zone chairmen, executive commissioner and others participated.
