Participants at the government-organised mass yoga demonstration for the International Day of Yoga at the Beach Road found a couple of community dogs walking among them, even as they were doing various asanas. The dogs continued to walk among the participants, catching the attention of all.

While everywhere else in the country, the mass yoga demonstrations began simultaneously right on schedule, the late arrival of the Chief Minister leading to a delay in the start of the proceedings in Puducherry made everyone to take the Tourism Department’s slogan, ‘Give time a break’, rather seriously.

Congress likely to split PCC

Ahead of the Assembly election in 2016, the Congress High Command has been toying with idea of revamping the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee so as to strengthen the party to face the ruling All India NR Congress.

Immediately after the Lok Sabha elections, the names of MLAs such as A. Namasivayam and K. Lakshiminarayanan have been doing rounds for the party posts. So far the Congress High Command has not taken any decision in this regard. Now the party circles confirmed that the High Command may bifurcate Puducherry unit into two taking a cue from the DMK and plans to post two leaders.

Mr. Subramanian admitted that the party leaders from Puducherry already discussed it with the High Command for decentralisation of power and the ultimate purpose of effecting such change is to win more number of seats in the coming Assembly.
