The Government College for Women, Kumbakonam, has launched its own multimedia to host the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) services. In doing so, the college has claimed, it has become the first government arts and science college in the country to undertake the venture.

The institution has deployed its own repository for launching the NPTEL resources that include more than 250 video courses on arts, science and humanities, made available through a Network Attached Storage (NAS) in the local area network of the college.

Wireless access

Wireless access to the multimedia portal has also been provided so that the students could individually benefit from the knowledge packet to hone their skills. The facility was possible due to the munificence of the University Grants Commission (UGC) that made available adequate funds for commissioning the portal and related services.
