An assurance to set up a check post and prevent smuggling of sand in Chithankulam tank located in Arasiyarpatti was given by Collector V. Rajaraman here on Wednesday, while responding to a representation from farmers.
Addressing a meeting to hear farmers’ grievances, Mr. Rajaraman also assured to undertake renovation work in Brahmanankulam and repair the damaged bund of Pungankulam and supply channel of Tirumalaiperi tank. When farmers complained of arrears in payment for cane procurement, the Collector directed the officials of Dharani Sugar Mill to disburse the pending money immediately.
According to an official press release, farmers, who raised livestock, wanted the administration to provide training through the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. They also complained that adequate quantity of certain varieties of fertilizers was not available in the district. Mr. Rajaraman instructed officials of the Department of Agriculture to maintain adequate stock and be vigilant against hoarding.
