Collector donates blood for 12th time

District Collector V.Sampath donated blood for the 12th time in a special blood donation camp organised jointly by AIDS Control Society and blood banks here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that blood donation would keep the donor healthy and active. Those who were in the age group of 18 to 60 could donate blood if the haemoglobin level was at 12.5. The donor’s body weight should not be less than 45 kg and he or she should not suffer from any ailment. The Collector noted that the district required on an average 1,250 units of blood a month. The district, however, had the storage capacity of 2,400 units of blood a month. Blood banks were operating in the Mundiyambakkam government medical college hospital and the government hospitals located at Kallakurichi, Ulundurpet and Tindivanam, besides five blood banks in the district.
