The district collector has asked banks to down the shutters of automated teller machines (ATMs) in isolated and rural areas with low transactions, during the night, to avoid crime. This includes ATMs along the borders, in remote and poorly-transacted areas, and locations seen as vulnerable to burglaries. According to an official source, such ATMs should shut down by 10 p.m. and could open after 6 a.m. This also applies to ATMs will less than five transactions at night. The fiat comes in the wake of the burglary at Kundarapalli branch of Bank of Baroda.
