CITU protests in front of Tangedco premises, activists arrested

Police rounded up 102 contract labourers employed by the TANGEDCO when they staged a road roko following a call given by the CITU on the Pudukkottai Road here on Wednesday.

They were demanding festival bonus and other financial relief.

CITU Electricity Board Contract Workers’ Association State secretary Govindarajan, CITU district secretary Jayapal and others participated and courted arrest when they attempted to gherao the office of the Superintending Engineer.

In Tiruvarur, scores of contract labourers were picked up when they blocked the Superintending Engineer’s office in the town.

They were led by CITU Electricity Board Contract Workers Association state vice-president G. Ramakrishnan, and CITU district secretary G. Palanivel.
