Child marriage stopped

District officials on Sunday prevented the marriage of a 13-year-old girl that was scheduled to to take place at a temple in Tiruchengode on Monday. The girl was supposed to be married off to a 24-year-old driver.

Based on a tipoff, Elachipalayam police inspector Sekar, Village Administrative Officer Anuradha, Abirami and Amudha from Childline 1098, representatives from District Child Protection Unit visited the girl’s house and found preparations for the wedding. The Class 8 girl was rescued by the officials and sent to a home. She will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee on Tuesday.
