Puthiya Tamizhagam founder K. Krishnasamy on Wednesday warned actor Kamal Haasan against proceeding with his proposed film titled Thevar Magan 2 , contending that the title had caused immense trouble to members of the Devendrakula Vellalar community in southern Tamil Nadu in 1993, when the first instalment, Thevar Magan, was released.

In a letter to Mr. Haasan, posted on social media, Dr. Krishnasamy said that the actor-politician should follow his ‘centrist’ political point of view and name his film Devendirar Magan this time around.

“If you really want to follow ‘centrist’ policies, you should name the film Devendirar Magan based on a community that is fighting to reclaim its identity. If you are firm on naming the film Thevar Magan 2 , there would be large-scale opposition and protests against the film. It will not run...it would be shut down,” warned Dr. Krishnasamy.

He said that Mr. Haasan should name his sequel Devendirar Magan in order to compensate for the “troubles” caused by the earlier film.
