The territorial administration has sought Rs. 2453.53 crore from the Union government for relief and restoration work in cyclone Thane-affected areas in Puducherry. A memorandum detailing sector-wise damage was on Sunday presented to a Central team, which is touring the region.

The team headed by Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Home Affairs Lokesh Jha, on its arrival interacted with top officials in the administration.

After holding meeting with officials at the Chief Secretariat, the team toured 13 places affected in the cyclone. The team interacted with the affected people and got first-hand account of the damage.

In their interaction with people whose houses got damaged, the team collected particulars on the extent of compensation needed to take up repair works.

The team also interacted with fishermen and farmers to know the extent of damage to their livelihood.

In a brief interaction with reporters, Mr Jha said “damage has taken place” and the team would submit a report to the Union government after the tour of the affected areas.
