The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday trapped the brother-in-law of a Delhi-based Indian Audit and Accounts Service Officer while accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh on behalf of the official.
According to the CBI, a complaint was received stating that A. Paramasivam, an IAAS officer working as Director in the office of the Director-General of Audit – Central Expenditure, is demanding a bribe of Rs. 35 lakh for regularising a nursing college run by the complainant.
On Monday, at a designated location, the complainant was to pay the first instalment of Rs. 5 lakh to the official’s brother-in-law, Sivaram Thilagar.
Accordingly, a trap was laid by a CBI team and Dr. Thilagar was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Dr. Thilagar, cited as second accused in the case, was arrested in Chennai while Dr. Paramasivan was being interrogated in Delhi.
Searches were conducted at the offices and residences of the accused in Delhi, Noida, Kancheepuram and in some places near Tirunelveli.
During the searches, Rs. 95 lakh in cash and several documents were seized.
