All is set for the conduct of the Maha Pushkaram in river Cauvery on several points through Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Thousands of devout are expected to congregate at the focal point Thula Kattam at Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district.

The celestial transit of planet Jupiter from zodiac sign Virgo to Libra is said to be the Maha Pushkaram period. Arrangements have been made for people from various regions to take a holy dip in the sacred spots. The dry riverbed has not dampened the enthusiasm of devotees and officials. While the organising committee led by the Akhila Bharatha Sanyasees Sangam has co-opted the roles of several Hindu maths, the role of official agencies such as the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments is limited to arranging temple rituals of the deities involved in the events such as the Thiruindalur Sri Parimala Ranganathar temple, Mayiladuthurai Sri Padithurai Kasi Viswanathar, Sri Mayuranatha Swamy, Sri Ayyarappar and Sri Vatharanyeswarar.Police and revenue officials have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the rituals at the Thula Kattam where water is being maintained at a safe level for the devotees to sprinkle on themselves.

It is also being ob served along the course of the river at Talaicauvery, Hogenakkal, Bhavani Kooduthurai, Mettur, Kodumudi, Kokkarayanpettai at Tiruchengode, Karur, Paramathi Velur, Thirueengoimalai, Nerur, Kulithalai, Thiruparaithurai, Srirangam, Grand Anicut, Thirukkattupalli, Thiruvaiyaru, Kumbakonam, Kuttalam and Poompuhar. .
