Bus services affected

September 18, 2011 09:23 am | Updated 09:24 am IST - Nagercoil:

Inter-State bus services between Tamil Nadu and Kerala were affected in Kanyakumari district following a dawn-to-dusk bandh called for by the opposition party in Kerala, Left Democratic Front (LDF), on Saturday.

The cadres of LDF had organised a strike to protest against the hike in prices of petroleum products on Friday. Some cadres of Democratic Youth Federation India (DYFI) and Student Federation of India (SFI), including a few police personnel, sustained injuries and were admitted to government hospitals.

In protest against the police, the LDF had called for the bandh in Thiruvananthapuram district. Owing to this, bus services operated from Tamil Nadu to different parts of Kerala were affected and the buses were stopped at Kaliyakkavilai on the inter-State border. However, train services towards Kerala were not affected.
