“Boys hostel given unofficial holidays”

Dalit Liberation Movement- Tamil Nadu has sent petitions to Chief Minister and National Commission for Scheduled Castes complaining that the authorities were giving “unofficial holidays” regularly on weekends to scheduled caste boys hostel at Kangayam.

S. Karuppaiah, the Movement’s state joint general secretary, told reporters that the matter was brought to the notice of the district administration on earlier occasions.

“However, the issue continues unabatedly. Our allegation is that giving unofficial holidays asking the entire 50 students to go to their native towns on weekends could lead to corruption as operational expenses for the hostel still would be shown”, he said.

When contacted, District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer M. Ravi told The Hindu that a message had already been communicated to the Directorate of Adi Dravidar Welfare recommending action against the hostel warden for allowing the entire 50 children to go home a month back without obtaining permission of Tahsildar.
