Two accused — Abdullah and Ismath — charged with planting explosives underneath a causeway near Tirumangalam, who were arrested and jailed in Madurai Central Prisons were shifted to two different prisons for “administrative reasons” here on Thursday.

The accused had allegedly planted the explosives en route the convoy of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani while he was touring the country on his ‘Jan chetna yatra.' After the timely detection of the explosives, just a few hours prior to the leader's departure from Madurai city, the Tirumangalam police had defused the explosives. A case was registered.

Subsequently, the State government transferred the case to the Special Investigation Team.

Additional Director General of Police (CB-CID) R. Sekar and team camped in the city and conducted the probe. Based on the inputs, they secured Abdullah and Ismath from Madurai and also recovered the vehicles used for the crime.

The duo, were produced before the Thirumangalam court, was detained in Madurai jail. Meanwhile, Abdullah was shifted to Vellore prison, and Ismath to Salem Central Prisons amid tight security, a senior police officer said.
