Body of history-sheeter cremated

The body of history-sheeter, S. Kathirvel (27) of Mettupatti Dadanur, who was shot in an encounter by Salem Rural police, on Thursday, was cremated at Panankadu village here, on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Judicial Magistrate No III P. Saravanabhavan held an inquiry with the victim’s family members and friends at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital. Police personnel were posted at large numbers in the hospital premises to prevent untoward incidents. Later, postmortem was conducted from 12:50 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. after which the body was handed over to his family members. The body was taken to his native village and cremated amid tight security.

Meanwhile, K. Periaiah, Inspector General of Police (West Zone), visited the hospital and held inquiries with Inspector Subramaniam and Sub-Inspector Mari, who were attacked by Kathirvel with a knife when he attempted to escape.
