Block level disaster management plans have been drafted by analysing local pockets and clusters prone to disasters in the district. This was conveyed at the recently held review meeting of the district disaster management agency under District Collector K.Vivekanandan here.
The plans have been uploaded on www.dharmapuri.nic.in for public perusal. In addition, it has been decided that each department will draft its own disaster management plans.
Setting up of a liaising agency in the event of a disaster, an integrated quick response and relief team, preventive steps to be taken through various line departments and minimising the impacts of disaster were some of the points brought to the review table.
The Disaster Management Act, 2005, mandates setting up of a district disaster management agency with the District Collector as the head under Sections 25 (1) and (2) of the Act.
Meeting
The review meeting also ascertained the preparedness of the district disaster management agency and the training imparted to revenue officials, disaster liaising officers of various departments, doctors, besides the basic training scheduled for Nehru Yuva Kendra members and other volunteers in the coming months.
