Black flags hoisted

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:11 am IST - DINDIGUL:

Voters in Pusari Goundenvalasu village near Thadikombu on Tuesday hoisted black flags in front of their houses as the name of their village was missing in the final electoral roll. They demanded immediate inclusion of the name in the roll.

All the voters in the village were attached to wards 1,2 and 15 in Andigoundenpatti village during the last local body polls.

The government had given land at Pusari Goundenvalasu and offered financial assistance to a section of people who were affected by heavy floods in 1977. The flood-affected people, who constructed houses in the newly developed village, had been living there for long. But after restructuring of wards, the village’s name was missing in the list, said A. Palanisamy of the village.

“We had petitioned to the Collector and election officials, but nothing had been done. To register our protest, we hoisted black flags,” said S. Vadivelu, another resident.

Now, 45 voters in the village had to go to three different polling booths to cast their votes.
