A barge sailing from Cuddalore to Gujarat, ‘Sri Krishna,’ ran aground near Nagapattinam on Friday evening.
It left the Cuddalore port on Thursday and was being anchored at the Nagapattinam port on Friday for filling fresh water. It was not carrying any load. However, it started drifting as the anchor snapped. Driven by strong wind, it ran aground at Therkku Poigainallur near Velankanni, sources said.
The barge’s crew strength was 10, including its captain.
Port and police officials inspected the barge. A large number of people visited the village to have a glimpse of the barge.
