A group of 25 devotees from Namakkal, Tiruppur and other western districts of the State who went on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar has been stranded in Nepal’s mountainous Simikot region for the past four days due to non-availability of flight services following inclement weather.

S. Gunasekaran, managing director of the Tiruchengode-based Vidhya Vikas Educational Institutions, is one of the pilgrims stranded in Simikot.

According to information available here, the group left for Kailash Mansarovar on July 24 and reached Simikot by flight on July 29. Later, it reached Kailash Mansarovar by riding on horseback and by walk.

While returning, the pilgrims were stranded at Simikot due to the non-arrival of flights for proceeding to Kathmandu due to inclement weather.

Food available

According to G. Vetriselvan, son of Mr. Gunasekaran, the pilgrims have been stranded in Simikot for the past four days.

However, the pilgrims faced no problem with food, Mr. Vetriselvan told The Hindu . “My father has been in regular touch over mobile phone with the family and he even spoke to me on Monday morning. All the pilgrims from Tamil Nadu were safe and in good health,” Mr. Vetriselvan said.

Mr. Vetriselvan said that the pilgrims from Tamil Nadu were in touch with both Central and the State government officials for making arrangements for airlifting them from Simikot.
