Bad road

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST

The D Block Road, the only alternative road to reach the Collectorate from Ramanathapuram town, other than NH 49, has deteriorated with a lot of potholes, hampering free flow of traffic. As no efforts seem to be taken by the panchayat to restore this road, the district administration should step in to repair and relay this road with bitumen toppingto ensure hassle-free travel.

Repair damage

On Vandikara Main Road, Ramanathapuram, the concrete drainage slab put up to cover the underground drainage junction just outside the compound wall of the municipal office is damaged, posing a threat to road-users. A large number of vehicles pass through the area daily and the Municipal Commissioner has to set this right immediately.

Ramanathapuram.

Stray dog menace

Another World Rabies Day has passed by, with statistics being espoused about the number of deaths caused by rabies. The fact is that India accounts for 20,000 of the 45,000 deaths due to rabies every year. Ramanathapuram municipality has not undertaken sterilisation of stray dogs in the recent past. Hence, stray dog population has increased in the town.

To eradicate rabies, dogs must be routinely vaccinated to contain the community dog population. The municipality should take action urgently to ensure that these animals are sterilised and rabid-free. The sterilised stray dogs should be sent to far away places.

G. Nagasamy,

Ramanathapuram.

Draw dividing line

The National Highway 49, connecting Ramanathapuram and Mandapam, has been widened and commuters can now use it freely.

But the dividing line along the middle of the road is yet to be drawn and there is a possibility of frequent accidents.

Though it is a little thing, it is as important as a nail in the horseshoe to a war horse.

Again, the highway is yet to get sufficient illumination at the four-road junction where it meets the East Coast Road at Pattinamkathan.

I appeal to the authorities concerned to look into this matter before any untoward incident takes place.

I. Shahika Imam,

Periyapattinam.
