Automated Unified System of refill booking well received

May 31, 2011 01:01 am | Updated 01:01 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Automated Unified System (AUS) for refill booking of Indane gas cylinders has been welcomed by a large section of users, as the process can now be completed with ease any time and in a short time, according to an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) official.

Talking to The Hindu , IOC Chief Area Manager, Chennai, S. Lakshminarayanan said, “We are being thanked by our consumers for reasons such as they need not have to call the agency for refill booking, as these numbers were not reachable most of the time; besides, staff in these agencies were sometimes rude and consumers were asked to wait for 21 days to make a fresh booking after receiving a refill.”

According to him, close to eight lakh customers have registered for the AUS out of the targeted customer base of 18 lakh in Chennai.

The numbers were increasing by one per cent to 1.5 per cent per day representing about 20,000 users.

Presently, the services covered the entire city and those residing in areas up to Manali, Porur and Perungalathur.

While the new system took the booking, the registration process largely remained incomplete.

“Our consumers are getting used to it and about 90 per cent of the bookings are through AUS. One cannot do multiple registrations for a single consumer number. At a time, only one mobile number or landline will be considered for registration. Cell phone users can send the request for a refill through a SMS only from the second time,” he said.

The waiting position or delivery date can be ascertained by calling the same number that would reveal exact date the deliveries have been made by the agency concerned.

A review meeting will be held in mid-June to find out how the system works and whether it could be extended to other areas, he said.
