ATV inducted

The Coastal Security Group has inducted an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) into its fleet to increase surveillance along the 157-km-long coastline of Tuticorin district.

Inspector of Tharuvaikulam Marine Police C. Mahesh Jeyakumar said here on Saturday that the imported four-seater vehicle could move swiftly on sandy beaches, rough terrains, through shallow waters and river mouth. Training had been given to the Marine Police personnel to man the patrol vehicle.

With the aid of this vehicle, the police could maintain watch on landing points to prevent smugglers or intruders from entering mainland. The Marine Police also had two fast interceptor boats and an all terrain bike, he said
