A 27-year-old person who failed to get a teacher’s job committed suicide in Vellore. In his suicide note, he has mentioned that the Tamil Nadu government should take the responsibility for his death.

According to police, Jayaprakash, 27, was a resident of J.J. Nagar, Malaimedu, Vellore. He was pursuing M. Phil after completing his M. Sc., and B.Ed. He appeared for Teachers Eligibility Test in 2017. However, he did not get a job he desired. Hence he was working in a hotel.

He got married three months ago. According to police officers, he used to return from the hotel late at night and get up by 6 a.m. He then used to go for a walk and have breakfast at home. On Monday, after returning from his walk, he had food and went inside his room.

“However, since he did not return for a long time, his parents grew concerned. They knocked on the door and as there was no reply they peeped through the window and saw him hanging,” said a police officer.

A case was registered in the Sipcot police station in Ranipet sub-division. During investigation, the police recovered a suicide note. He had mentioned that despite clearing the TET, he had not got a job and he felt that he would not get his desired job as the State government had announced that another qualifying examinations had to be cleared.

At the end of the note, he mentioned that the Tamil Nadu government should own responsibility for his death. “The investigation has just started. Once there is some clarity, we will take necessary action,” said a police officer.

Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline 104 and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050.
