Arrested on graft charges

An assistant at Rasipuram Municipality was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 3,000 for renewing a licence for a shop here on Monday.

Madheswaran was running a fruit shop in the bus stand complex at Rasipuram that belong to the municipality.

Since he has to renewal the licence, he approached the grade two assistant Chandrasekaran.

But he demanded Rs. 5,000 as graft for issuing a renewal certificate so that he could run the shop continuously. Since Madheswaran cited insufficient money, the assistant finally demanded Rs. 3,000.

Unwilling to pay the money, Madheswaran approached the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), who laid the trap. On Monday, while Chandrasekaran was accepting the money from Madheswaran, sleuths of DVAC caught him red-handed.

Lodged in prison

A case has been registered and Chandrasekaran was produced in the court and lodged at the prison.
