Anaicut MLA M. Kalaiarasu has offered to resign his Assembly seat. Initially he was elected on the Pattali Makkal Katchi ticket but turned into a staunch supporter of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the last three years .

Mr. Kalaiarasu told The Hindu that he has made the offer to facilitate the AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to contest and get elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He celebrated the verdict by distributing sweets to passers-by in Anna Salai in Vellore on Monday.

Not expelled from PMK

The MLA who claimed that he has not yet been officially expelled from the PMK and has also not officially joined the AIADMK.

He has been virtually disowned by the PMK ever since he met the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa three years ago to thank her for having fulfilled the demand of the people of his constituency for the creation of a new taluk with Anaicut as headquarters.

“I am of the opinion that political decency demands one should praise the good deeds of a government even if you are in the Opposition. In tune with this policy, I have been praising the AIADMK government for its people-friendly schemes and making representations on behalf of the people of my constituency”, he said.
