As many as 19 godowns owned either by the Department of Rural Development or Tamil Nadu Civil Supply Corporation in Tiruvannamalai district began selling subsidised cement of Tamil Nadu Government named ‘Amma Cement’ at Rs.190 per bag.
District Collector A.Gnanasekaran in his statement issued here on Monday declared that 11 godowns run by department of rural development in Kilpennathur, Kalasapakkam, Chengam, Jawadu Hills, Chetpet, Anakkavur, Vembakkam, Thellar, Peranamallur and West Arani blocks and, eight taluk godowns of Tamil Nadu Civil Supply Corporation located in Tiruvannamalai, Polur, Pudupalayam, Thandarampattu, Cheyyar (Pappanthangal), Thiruvathipuram, Vandavasi and Arani have commenced sales of the cement.
The Collector said that the subsidised cement is meant to benefit people of low and middle income groups in their projects of house construction.
They would be sold 50 bags of Amma Cement for every 100 square feet of construction to the maximum of 750 bags. For repair works a minimum of 10 bags to the maximum of 100 bags would be sold.
Those who want to buy cement under the scheme have to produce a copy of the approved construction plan along with the demand draft for the amount calculated for the required number of bags to the manager of the respective godown and register themselves.
Documents
Other documents (instead of approved plan) that could be produced to prove the genuineness of construction plan were certificate either from the Village Administrative Officer, Revenue Inspector and, Overseers and Road Inspectors of Rural Development Department.
A seniority of persons registering for the cement would be maintained and an applicant would get the commodity only when his/her turn comes.
