An engineering graduate, a lead consultant at Bengaluru-based ITC Infotech, has pedalled all the way from the Garden City of India to pay his homage to former President APJ Abdul Kalam at his Samadhi at Peikarumbu near here.

S. Mohamed Harun Faizal (24), a native of this district, decided to pay homage to the late leader and completed the seven-day expedition on Saturday, covering about 650 km.

“I came out with the idea on my own and completed the expedition without any setback,” he told The Hindu . He began at 6 a.m. on October 18 from Cox Town in Bengaluru and rode about 100 km every day before taking a break. His solo expedition spread over seven days and he took breaks at Krishnagiri, Salem, Karur, Madurai, Ilayankudi and Ramanathapuram at the end of each day’s cycling for 100 to 150 km.

As he pedalled his way, he met lot of youngsters who were impressed by his ‘trip dedicated to Kalam’ and offered to form a WhatsApp group. All the youngsters he had met en-route were in a group now and they proposed to take up cycle expeditions to popularise the ‘Go green’ concept, he says.

It would be ‘all cycle day’ once in a week to promote awareness of the need to preserve clean and green environment, said Faizal, a product of PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore said. He was received at the Samadhi by Thangachimadam Parish Priest Gnanaprakasam.
