Alarm prevents idol theft

September 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - NAGAPATTINAM:

A burglary alarm at Sri Bairavanathar temple at Thagattur near Vedaranyam on Monday ensured the safety of idols.

Police said two persons entered the temple by breaking open the locks of the main gate. Although they tried to break open the locks of safe rooms where idols had been kept, they sped the scene following the siren from the burglary alarm attached to it.

Security personnel rushed to the temple but could not locate them.

The police said the surveillance camera had recorded the images of two persons.
