AITUC members attempt to lock Tasmac outlet

Members of All India Trade Union Congress were arrested when they attempted to lock a Tasmac outlet in front of the Corporation Bus Stand on Tuesday morning.

As many as 32 women were among those arrested in the group led by AITUC District Secretary S. Chinnasamy. They were all released later in the day.

According to Mr. Chinnasamy, the government was enriching its coffers at the expense of labourers in construction, textile, transport and other sectors.

Several lakhs of families have been ruined due to alcohol addiction of male members.

In particular, rising incidences of youths below 20 years taking to drinking was alarming.Operation of Tasmac outlets by the Government was tantamount to snatching the hard earned money of the working class, Mr. Chinnasamy

said.

In Salem, members of AITUC Construction Workers’ Union attempted to lock the outlet near New Bus Stand here on Tuesday.

Led by State Committee member Geetha, cadre demanded closure of all shops in the State. When they tried to enter the outlet located opposite the bus depot, the police tried to prevent them. Altercation broke between the police and the cadre and scuffle prevailed. Later, the police lodged them at marriage halls.

Protests were also held in Tiruchengode.
