Leader of the Opposition and DMK working president M.K. Stalin will return to Chennai from Sharjah on Monday and meet people of his Kolathur Assembly constituency who have been affected by the monsoon.
On Sunday, Twitter was abuzz with the hash tag ‘whereisMKStalin’ with hundreds of those on the micro-blogging site questioning his absence from Chennai when the city was reeling under the impact of the monsoon. His supporters, however, countered this saying he had gone to waterlogged areas such as Otteri before leaving for Sharjah last week to participate in the book fair there.
Some Twitter users posted pictures of him in Kerala during the December 2015 floods and alleged that the DMK leader was missing in action when the city needed its leaders to be on the field.
“He is away only for two days. He has gone to attend a book fair and donated 1,000 books. He is returning tomorrow (Monday) and he has already spoken to (Harbour MLA) P.K. Sekar Babu in connection with his visit to the Kolathur constituency,” said former Mayor and Saidapet MLA Ma. Subramanian.
He contended that the Twitter messages had only proved that Mr Stalin’s presence was very much necessary as the State government had failed to provide relief to people.
“Even before leaving the country, he visited his constituency and the entire North Chennai. He had done for the people what the government is expected to do,” Mr. Subramanian argued.
