After 10-day ordeal, ‘failed’ student passes

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - KRISHNAGIRI:

When Kavithamani received a copy of her economics answer script against her revaluation application, she was in a state of shock. The answer script bearing a paltry score of 24 marks was not hers.

A student of St. Anne’s Girls Higher Secondary School here, Kavithamani had a total score of 584 marks, in the Plus-Two examinations. According to the mark sheet, she had failed in economics.

“I received the answer script on May 29 and was shocked to see that the answer sheet was someone else’s, but attached to my register number. We placed a complaint with the CEO’s office here, but was asked to go to Chennai, and place a complaint,” Kavithamani told The Hindu .

“I had to convince the officials at the camp in Chennai Government Girls Higher Secondary School, where the revaluation process was under way that the handwriting in the script was not mine. I carried along my notebooks as proof of my writing style,” she said.

When contacted, the Director of Education Devarajan said that the original answer sheet has been dispatched to her.

Late Wednesday evening, after a 10-day ordeal, Kavithamani got the copy of her original answer script that had 123 marks.“We received over 1,08,000 applications for revaluation. This was the only complaint we received,” said Mr. Devarajan.

The delay was because the handwriting had to be verified by retrieving all other answer scripts of Kavithamani, he said.
