Water partnership platform to be set up

A two-day conference has resolved to establish a water partnership platform in India for drinking water, sanitation and water resources sector towards shared learning, collective problem solving and capacity building to attain water security, sustainability and democratic management of water for citizens, ensuring reaching the “unreached” and the poor.

A declaration to this effect was adopted on Friday at the conference organised by the Centre for Excellence for Change, Chennai, and supported by UNICEF (India).

The main theme of the conference was ‘water partnerships towards meeting the climate challenge.'

Final session

Santha Sheela Nair, former Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) in the Union government, chaired the final session where delegates endorsed the declaration. Arun Misra, Secretary, DDWS, and representatives of the United Nations Development Programme-India and UNICEF-India had pledged their support to the initiative by the Centre for Excellence of Change, according to a release.
