Two killed in separate train accidents

Two persons, including an engineering student, died after being hit by trains in separate accidents on Monday.

Government Railway Police sources said Pooja of Vinayagapuram, Ambattur, boarded an electric multiple unit (EMU) train at Nungambakkam railway station. She got down at Potheri, where she was studying . She was hit by the Puducherry-Chennai Egmore fast passenger while she tried to reach GST Road.

She suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot, sources said. The body was taken to Government Hospital in Chromepet for post-mortem.

Jharkhand native

In another incident, Meghnath Rai (21), a construction worker and native of Jharkhand, was hit by a suburban electric train between the Pallavaram and Chromepet railway stations.

The body was taken to Government Hospital in Chromepet for post-mortem. Further investigations are under way.
