A woman and two girls drowned in a pond at Karnampoondi near Keelpennathur on Monday evening. Jagathambal (32) went to the pond to wash clothes along with her daughter Jeevapriya (12) and a relative Priyadharshini (7).
According to police, Jeevapriya and Priyadharshini, who were playing on the banks, entered the water and drowned. On seeing this, Jagathambal, who tried to save them, also drowned. Annadurai, Village Administrative Officer filed a complaint with Kilpennathur police.
In another incident, Gopi (27) of MGR Nagar in Melappalam Pudur near Kaveripakkam drowned in a tank in Kalpulambattu in the Nemili police station limits when he along with two others, went there to take bath on Tuesday.
