After Sunday’s torrential downpour that submerged many parts of Chennai and its suburbs, the rain eased off on Monday to the relief of thousands of residents, who are still marooned and living without electricity, water and food.

Five children dead in Kadapa
Rain—related mishaps claimed lives of five children in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh today, taking the toll since yesterday to eight, police said.
Heavy rains are lashing the district for the last three days.
Achyut (5) died in an incident of wall—collapse at Lakshimigari Palli village in Railway Kodur mandal in the morning.
While four children died this evening when roof of the veranda an old building collapsed at Boyapalli in Sambepalli mandal this evening.
The deceased were identified as M Vasu (8) and M Vasu (9), sons of Badri and Parvathi; G Siva Kumar, the son of Sivaiah and Saraswati; and Y Ganesh (8), son of Mallaiah and Lakshimi Devi, all residents of Boyapalli.
NDRF teams supply food to waterlogged localities
A commendable work is being done by the special teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) who have been supplying food packets in boats to the residents of waterlogged and marooned villages in the Gudur revenue division on Tuesday.

Chennai-Nellore traffic badly hit since last night
The flood waters in the Pambaleru stream caused severe damage to the National Highway 16 between Chennai and Nellore leaving a cut for over 20 metres and bringing to a halt the mainstream traffic on both sides even as the authorities diverted vehicles via alternative roads on Tuesday.
NDRF deputes 10 teams to TN, AP
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 10th Battalion has deputed ten teams to Tamil Nadu and the flood affected districts in Andhra Pradesh. The force evacuated more than 1,000 people trapped in flood waters.
NDRF which was pressed into the flood ravaged areas in Chennai, Nellore and Chittoor are rescuing the people in villages and were helping the victims by giving first aid, supplying food packets to the flood victims in rehabilitation shelters. >Read more

Some of the trains cancelled include, Yesvantpur – Howrah Duronto express, New Delhi – Thiruvananthapuram Kerala express, New Delhi – Chennai Central Grand Trunk express, New Delhi – Chennai Central Tamil Nadu express, Nagercoil – Kacheguda weekly express, Chennai Central – Tirupati Sapthagiri express, Chennai Central – Mumbai CST express, and Chennai Central – Hyderabad Charminar express.

Army, Air Force deployed for rescuing stranded people
The Army and Air Force have been deployed for rescuing stranded citizens in the Kancheepuram district, where torrential rains have left residents marooned, even as rain water inundated a large part of suburban Tambaram locality.
Personnel from the Madras 4 Regiment of the Indian Army have been pressed into service at Mudichur in Kacheepuram on the request of the district administration even as Air Force has conducted sorties to rescue citizens, Defence officials said.
IAF helicopters from the Air Force station at Tambaram carried out six sorties and evacuated 22 persons last night they said, adding that food packets and water were air dropped. >Read more

Brimming reservoirs trigger exodus
Chembarambakkam and Poondi reservoirs, bone-dry until a fortnight ago, are now filled to the brim, which has led to consternation among residents of localities nearby.
An alert was sounded for residents of areas located downstream of the Chembarambakkam reservoir, including Anakaputhur, Gerugambakkam, Gowl Bazaar and Manapakakkam. Several people have vacated their houses to escape from the flooding. >
