The Madras High Court on Tuesday reserved its order on a plea moved by Ramkumar, the accused in the sensational murder of Infosys employee Swathi at the Nungambakkam railway station, to set aside the order of a Metropolitan Magistrate permitting the police to shoot a video to reconstruct the crime and compare the result with old CCTV footages.

Alleging that the order of the XIV Metropolitan Magistrate was arbitrary and against natural justice, Ramkumar urged the High Court to quash the order. When the plea came up for hearing, after recording the submissions of the petitioner’s counsel Justice P.N. Prakash reserved his order.

On July 28, Magistrate S. Gopinathan had allowed a plea moved by the police for collecting specimen signatures and comparing photographs and video footage around the crime scene near the Nungambakkam railway station.
