Riviera’s Infusion 2017 opens a window to world cultures

31 students from different countries take part in VIT’s cultural event

Packed with scores of fun-filled events and contests, VIT University’s international sports and cultural carnival – Riviera 2017 – entered into its third day on Saturday. The evening belonged to Bollywood singer, actor and director Farhan Akhtar as he performed for a large crowd.

The fest that runs on theme “Entertainment Unlimited” started off on a colourful note on Saturday with “Infusion 2017”. An international cultural extravaganza, the event witnessed participants from countries such as Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Africa and Nepal, with the host performance depicting Indian culture.

The event, which was aimed at depicting the cultures all around the world, had 31 performers from these different countries.

Out of this, 19 members were from foreign universities and the rest were from VIT. Infusion 2017 saw a large audience of at least 1,800.

Another highlight of the day was events organised by Club Sahiti, which was the Telugu students club at VIT University. “The club has organised four events – Antakshari, Drushyam, which tests the movie knowledge of contestants, Sye, which consists of one-minute games and Hashyam, a stand-up comedy contest,” Rohit Kusumanchi, secretary of the club, said.

Sye, the event which was held on Saturday, saw 50 participants, with the chief guest being Telugu comedian Saptagiri. Contestants were given one-minute tasks such as flying the balloon, he added. Nearly 2,000 students thronged the Anna Auditorium for the Telugu club event.

The day also saw a number of fun events such as Pillow Fight and a few quizzes too. At Frisk Factor, an inter-collegiate dance competition that was held on Friday evening, the team from SASTRA University, Thanjavur, bagged the first place in eastern dance category. They were followed by the team from VIT University, Chennai campus, in second place. In the western dance category, the team from Loyola College, Chennai, took the first prize, followed by Anna University in second place and SRM University in third place.

The four-day event will come to a close on Sunday, with Bollywood actor Ayushman Khurrana taking part in the valedictory function.
