As part of the sensitisation programme for judicial officers, two new Regional Judicial Academies to be set up at Madurai and Coimbatore will also lay adequate thrust on region-specific laws and procedural laws.
At present, the State Judicial Academy in Chennai largely addressed the judiciary's need to refresh and reorient judicial officers to the intricacies and skills that were required for dispensation of justice which should be quicker and at the same time flawless, a High Court official said.
Keeping in tune with the concept of decentralisation and bearing in mind that the target group was judicial officers largely drawn from trial courts located in the rural pockets of the State, the training methodology in the proposed regional facilities would focus on the regional/local laws and the procedural laws. Thus, as far as Madurai was concerned, apart from the orientation programmes to hone the skills of judicial officers and to enable them to keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in procedural law, steps would be taken to come up with sensitisation programmes with focus on communal clashes, female infanticide and implementation of relevant Acts.
Similarly, at the regional academy at Coimbatore, the judicial officers would be benefited also by specific programmes for the region's predominantly industrial climate such as labour unrest, cases filed under the Factories Act, corporate social responsibility of industrial units and lapses, marital discord between working class couples, and labour laws.
The decentralisation of training for judicial officers would enable them to save time which they would otherwise have to spend to attend programmes at the State Judicial Academy here. With Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism being emphasised to settle cases quickly, the skills needed to play their role in different types of cases could be imparted in the academies.
The official said the judicial academies would also serve as centres for training Law Officers.
