Post offices in the Chennai city region are all set to showcase and sell Maruti cars.
Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) and the Department of Posts have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to this effect, Post Master General (Chennai City Region) M.S. Ramanujam said.
Maruti will display its cars in the space available on the post office premises in those places where it does not have a showroom, he said while speaking at a function organised to inaugurate Postal Financial Mart in Tiruvannamalai Head Post Office. Postal staff will identify prospective customers, explain salient features of the cars and get the application forms filled.
Commission
For every successful business, the department will get Rs.1000 as commission.
“Even before the matter was publicised, the news reached the public through employees and a dozen cars have already been booked. Application forms for Maruti cars will also be made available at post office counters,” he said.
“Postal Department in the State stands first in the country in selling gold coins through post offices. Gold coins to the tune of 50 kg were sold in the State ever since the scheme was launched,” he said at a press conference later.
Superintendent of Posts, Tiruvannamalai division V. Thangavelu accompanied him.
