Plea to expand special courts to all districts

January 02, 2011 11:40 pm | Updated 11:41 pm IST - Tirupur:

The State government should expand the special courts, set up to deal exclusively with cases booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, for ensuring speedier conviction, to all districts and thereby ensure social justice to the SC/ ST community, according to Aathithamizhar Peravai founder R. Athiyamaan.

“The police are responsible for the continuance of large-scale atrocities against the Scheduled Caste people across the State as the charge sheets against the accused involved in cases booked under SC/ST Act were not framed properly on most of the occasions,” he told The Hindu on the sidelines of the Pervai's general body meeting at Avinashi near here on Sunday.

Mr. Athiyamaan expressed his outfit's wish to see an end to the humiliation and social injustice being meted out to the Scheduled Castes, before the end of the current year.
