PMK to contest at least 10 seats in southern districts

January 03, 2011 11:36 pm | Updated 11:37 pm IST - DINDIGUL:

In the southern districts alone the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will contest at least 10 constituencies, including one in Dindigul, S. Ramadoss, party founder, said here on Monday.

Talking to reporters, he said the party was gaining in strength in southern districts. “We want to capitalise on it. At present, we have been focussing on 65 constituencies.”

Condemning a proposal to have entrance examination for medical courses, he opined that the move would wipe out the chances of rural students. All political leaders, students and people of the State should oppose it. If it were to be introduced, the State would witness an agitation, which would be more intense than the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation, he cautioned.

Reacting to remarks made by CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramachandran against him on the spectrum issue, he said the CBI investigation was on under Supreme Court monitoring. “We will get a clear picture only after completion of the enquiry.”

On the Mullaperiyar issue, Dr. Ramadoss said Tamil Nadu should not accept underwater photographing to check the strength of the dam.

G.O. 361 that imposed cess on vegetables, rice, wheat and oil should be scrapped immediately. With no involvement of any service, why did the government impose cess on them, he asked.

The Royapuram railway station in Chennai should be developed as third railway terminal next to Egmore and Central stations, instead of Tambaram, which was not ideal.
