Tamil National Front leader P. Nedumaran on Saturday that the AIADMK Government in Tamil Nadu must voluntarily step down from power since the entire administrative machinery had come to a standstill following the conviction and imprisonment of Jayalalithaa in an assets case.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nedumaran said that Jayalalithaa had several legal procedures and channels to fight her case in the High Court and Supreme Court. But the AIADMK volunteers have taken law into their own hands and started causing hardship to the public.

People were in constant fear and unable to lead normal lives since the outbreak of violence in various places. He said that most of the Ministers have been camping in Bangalore leaving the administration in disarray.

He alleged that the DGP in the State was given an extension of two years and was only expected to support the ruling government. The Tamil Nadu Governor K.Rosaiah should direct the Chief Secretary and DGP to ensure that law and order is maintained in the State. The government must voluntarily step down since the police and other officers are not able to rise to the occasion.

Mr. Nedumaran said that the tenure of the United Nations Human Rights Committee probing rights violations in Sri Lanka should be given extension till the year end. He also wanted deployment of adequate Tamil Nadu police or Central forces in the Mullaiperiyar dam to ensure its safety.
