The Karnataka government is not opposing Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Flurosis Mitigation Programme being implemented at a cost of Rs.1928 crore for augmenting water supply to Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts, B.S. Yeddyurappa, Karnataka Chief Minister, said here on Friday.
Mr. Yeddyurappa, who started election campaign in support of BJP candidate Shoolagiri S. Premanathan contesting from Veppanahalli, told reporters that the project was implemented by the State to provide drinking water to the brothers and sisters of the border district in the neighbouring State.
Cauvery issue
He refused to comment on the Cauvery issue, as the Election Code of Conduct was on.
While addressing an election campaign meetings at Urigam, Denkanikottai and Thalli, supporting the candidature of K.S. Narendran, he said, the Karnataka government was ready to extend its helping hand to those residing on the border by extending additional bus facilities to the adjoining villages and better road connectivity after the election process is over in the State.
At this, juncture, the BJP Government in Karnataka could not undertake any new announcements for Tamil Nadu as it amounted to violation of Code of Conduct.
He said he would extend fullest cooperation to the neighbouring Thalli constituency if the BJP candidate won the elections.
He even offered to lobby with the Tamil Nadu Government to upgrade the basic amenities in border villages.
Mr. Narendran assured people that he would bring an arts college and polytechnic for the benefit of people residing in and around Thalli constituency.
Ashok, Transport Minister, Government of Karnataka, also spoke.
Later, Mr. Yeddyurappa addressed a mammoth public meeting organised at Ram Nagar in Hosur, where he canvassed votes for G. Balakrishnan, Hosur BJP candidate.
