AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Friday announced that she would lead a demonstration in Villupuram on February 13 to highlight the problems of sugarcane farmers.

In a statement here, Ms. Jayalalithaa said the government should announce Rs.2,500 per tonne of sugarcane as advisory price.

“It is the duty of the State government to fix the advisory price to ensure that sugarcane cultivation is continued in Tamil Nadu. Otherwise, we will be forced to buy sugar from other States,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
