AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Sunday said she was saddened by the decision of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) to boycott the Assembly elections to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

“You have every right to decide your party’s course of action. However, as a beloved sister my respect for you abides,” she said in a letter to Mr Vaiko.

The letter followed in the wake of a resolution adopted in the meeting of district secretaries and various other committees of the MDMK to quit the AIADMK alliance and boycott the elections.

Ms Jayalalithaa said though the MDMK had been remaining with the AIADMK alliance since the 2006 Assembly elections, she was not able to allot 21 seats to the party because of the presence of too many political parties in the combine.

“As a veteran politician you will understand the situation,” she added.

She said she was ready to allot 12 seats to the MDMK and conveyed the same through AIADMK seat-sharing committee members O. Panneerselvam and K.A.Senogottaiyan.
