All efforts are being taken to prevent outbreak of dengue in Tiruvarur district, Collector M. Mathivanan said here on Friday.
Speaking after discussing the preparation of the various agencies involved in dengue prevention activities, Mr. Mathivanan said that patients visiting government medical facilities across the district were being given nilavembu syrup, malaivembu and papaya juice as a preventive measure.
That apart, the medical facilities have been advised to keep adequate stock of medicines and drugs to treat any case of dengue. A separate ward was being established and every bed would be provided with mosquito net cover.
Public too must cooperate with the authorities in preventing accumulation of waste water that help proliferate mosquito population aiding dengue. Public were also being sensitised to cleanliness and hygiene that were integral to effective prevention activities, Mr. Mathivanan said. Since there was no vaccination or specific treatment for dealing with dengue, prevention would be the best possible manner to deal with the fever. Those with symptoms of fever need to rush to the nearest medical facility for treatment, the Collector urged.
Tiruvarur Government Medical College Dean Kannabiran, Joint Director of Health Services Senguttuvan, Deputy Director Kalusivalingam and others participated in the deliberations.
