Firm barred from using Tamanna's name in ad

The Madras High Court on Monday granted interim injunction restraining a soap manufacturer and a communications company from using or associating the name of actor Tamanna Santhosh Bhatia in their advertisements, sales promotion materials or on websites.

Justice V.Ramasubramanian, who passed the order on an application by the actor, said that the injunction would be in force till June 8.

In her application, Ms. Tamanna stated that Power Soaps Limited, Puducherry, had approached her, through J and D Communication Pvt. Ltd here, for promoting its products by appearing as its brand ambassador. An agreement dated October 7, 2008 was entered into. The agreement was valid till October 6, 2009. Even after the agreement period, the material produced earlier for advertisements were being used unlawfully. In the suit, she claimed damages of Rs.1 crore for exploiting her popularity for the business in breach of the agreement.
