Dalits in three colonies - Natham, Anna Nagar and Kondampatti - of Naikkankottai village called off their hunger strike on Saturday morning after the District Collector R. Lilly and Superintendent of Police Asra Garg appealed to withdraw their strike, police sources said.
The sources said that the officials’ assured the people to bring their sentiments and demands to the notice of the State government including the arrests of main culprits involved in the November 7 attack, after the death of R. Nagaraj, whose daughter N. Divya (21) married a dalit boy E. Ilavarasan (19).
Meanwhile, the hunger strike called by Communist Party of India leaders including D. Raja, National Secretary and R. Nallakkanu, State Secretary at Dharmapuri on Saturday morning was cancelled due to the demise of the former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral.
